Welcome to the Website of PDSEC
Product Development and Systems Engineering Consortium (PDSEC) has served a leading research group on Product Development and Systems Engineering at Wayne State University. The research vision of PDSEC is to establish an intelligence and knowledge hub to revitalize the competitiveness of automotive/ground vehicle development and manufacturing by providing innovative enabling collaborative product design and development technologies. Product design and innovation are keys to the US industry remaining competitive. In PDSEC, multiple research projects have been conducted to provide a framework to incorporate best practices in the design process that can bring cost saving across the entire automotive/ground vehicle development. The PDSEC research offers product designers and decision makers in the product development process with the application tools based on scientific methods to shorten the development time, to optimize the design for ex ante information and ex post lifecycle, and to reduce quality problems before the launch and after market. The enabling technologies include a collection of advanced architectural design optimization tools, selective assembly design extraction and sharing, and assembly design decision making tools. These advanced decisions tools and enabling technologies will specifically target the
transformation process driven by innovative of products and technologies, and advancement of manufacturing practices. This new thrust necessitates an increased number of highly skilled and trained workers with systems engineering perspective to design and develop the
next generation of innovative products.
